About CarrierScout & Our Data Standards
CarrierScout is an independent commercial motor carrier intelligence index and commercial truck insurance benchmark platform. We aggregate, clean, and structure public safety census records released by the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).
Official Census Ingestion
Data sourced directly from federal FOIA public records via Socrata API (`data.transportation.gov`) covering active interstate and intrastate motor carriers.
Compliance Intelligence
Automated tracking of mandatory 49 CFR § 390.19 biennial update schedules (MCS-150), operating authority verification, and fleet size tiers.
Actuarial Benchmarks
Real-time premium range estimators across Primary Auto Liability ($750k-$1M), Motor Truck Cargo ($100k), Physical Damage, and General Liability.
Our Mission
The commercial transportation and trucking insurance marketplace is notoriously fragmented. New venture owner-operators and growing fleet managers routinely encounter opaque premium pricing, aggressive cold solicitation, and confusing federal filing requirements (such as BMC-91X, MCS-90, and Form BOC-3).
Our mission is to democratize motor carrier data transparency: enabling carriers to check their regulatory standing, plan their biennial compliance deadlines, and connect with licensed commercial truck insurance underwriters who offer competitive rate quotes.
Data Integrity & Frequency
Our census synchronization engine streams updates from federal data endpoints. While we strive to maintain the highest degree of factual accuracy, government census records may reflect statutory reporting lags. Motor carriers wishing to update their official federal records should file directly via the FMCSA Unified Registration System (URS).
